2005 is widely considered to be the 'vintage of dreams' in the Rhone, so we were delighted that the Merle family agreed to release their first parcel of the 2005 Chateau de Beaulieu exclusively for you. The Merle's winemaker, Jean-Phillipe Trollet is an award-winning craftsman, well known for his obsession with quality. He takes the already meagre yields of the chateau's old vines and restricts them further, to produce grapes that are tiny knots of intense flavour, and then presses and ferments them to give this deeply satisfying, complex wine. Enticing aromas of blackberries and wild violets with concentrated forest fruit flavours and a powerful, warming finish. Superb with roasted meats and hearty stews.
